I have a horrible memory, so when I received an email from Insight Timer yesterday letting me know that one of my meditations was being featured on their Talks Featured List, I couldn’t remember what I had said. But when I looked back over what I had written, I realized that this was a beautifully serendipitous message. You see, for a while now, I’ve felt overwhelmed by my obligations. These obligations are mostly self-imposed, and they are all very good . . . but I was struggling to manage them all, and many days, I was left feeling exhausted. I didn’t know what to do.
Enter that email from Insight Timer. In it, I mentioned how I was struggling with what to do with my many gardens at the house I just bought. I am not a gardener—at all—and the gardens at this new house were overwhelming. “Edit your gardens,” a friend told me. By that, she meant cut out what didn’t work for me. So, whatever feels draining and overwhelming, get rid of it. If there’s something that brings me joy and delight, focus on that, feed that.
Her advice works not only for my garden, but also for life. Since I have been feeling overwhelmed, I have decided to step away from the Kabir poems for at least the month of July. I will still be posting a “Make the most of your Monday” piece, but that will be it. Because we only get this one life, and I, for one, want to make it count. Thank you for your support, and have a great July!!
Thanks God for serendipitous messages.
